Composer & Musical Director
As a long standing company member of both Calf 2 Cow and The Production Garden, Samuel has composed and musically directed on eight professional productions.
His music is influenced by his punk and folk-rock origins, with lyrics and musical stylings stretching from parody to pathos, creating big sounds on outdoor acoustic stages and in vaulted echoing abbeys. Specialising in bringing out musicality from all performers - his emphasis on directing the company confidently into ‘the band’ live on stage is at the heart of his process.
His work includes music and lyrics for The Wave, The Wind In the Willows, Jabberwocky & Other Nonsense, Sherlock & Watson: A Murder in the Garden (Calf 2 Cow), Romeo & Juliet, Pride & Prejudice, The Importance Of Being Earnest and Sense and Sensibility.
Freeman has also done arrangement and musical direction as part of the ongoing project The Mumford & Sons Story.
